Covered wagons are most often used for transportation of palletized consumer goods or loose cargo in bags and other type pf cargo that are weather-sensitive.

A tank wagon (cistern) is a type of rolling stock designed to transport liquid and gaseous commodities. Many variants exist due to the wide variety of liquids and gases transported. Tank cars can be pressurized or non-pressurized, insulated or non-insulated, and designed for single or multiple commodities.

Flat wagons have a flat, usually full-length deck and little or no superstructure. They are often designed for the transportation of goods that are not weather-sensitive. Typical goods transported by these railway wagons are: vehicles, engines, large pipes, metal beams, wire coils, wire mesh, half-finished steel products, (sheets, coils, pipes, bars and plates), timber.

Special wagons for car transportation. Safe and secure transportation of cars is insured by special attachements inside the wagon, doors and mesh covering sides of it. Usually approx. 10 standart cars can fit into the wagon.

Container platform are flat wagons specially fitted with securing equipment for transporting ISO containers. Depending on model  it can carry from two 20 feet or one 40 feet to four 20 feet or two 40 feet containers.

Refrigerated wagons are a piece of  rolling stock designed to carry perishable freight at specific temperatures. Refrigerated wagons differ from simple insulated wagons (isothermal) commonly used for transporting fruits and vegetables and not fitted with cooling equipments. 

Hopper wagons are mostlly used for transportation of bulk cargos such as grain, cement, fertillizers and others which are sensitive to weather. 

Container is a standardized reusable steel box used for the safe, efficient and secure storage and movement of materials and products within a global containerized intermodal freight transport system. Container can be moved from one mode of transport to another (from ship, to rail or truck) without unloading and reloading the contents of the container. Most commonly used lengths are 20 and 40 feet.

Open wagons form a substantially large group of rail wagons and are designed primarily for the transportation of bulk goods that are  not weather-sensitive and can usually be dumped or shoveled. They are mostly used for transportation of minerals such as gravel or coal as well as some metals or biomass.
